Women Protagonists in the Postwar Period. Cultural Reconstruction in Milan
Wednesday, November 19 and Thursday, November 20, 2025
Milan, Palazzo Reale
Conference Hall, Piazza Duomo 14
Conference promoted by the Fondazione Elvira Badaracco with the Municipality of Milan and the University of Milan, curated by Maria Canella and Giovanna Rosa.
An initiative that represents the continuation of the conference “Women Protagonists at the Origins of the Republic. Italian Women Writers, Publishers, Journalists and Screenwriters,” which resulted in the volume edited by Laura Di Nicola and published by Carocci in 2021.
The presentations will reconstruct the figures and professions of women in the world of art and entertainment, design and fashion, politics and trade unions, literature and publishing, communication and journalism, which characterized the Milan scene from the economic boom to the 1960s. The papers will illustrate the fundamental role played by intellectuals, designers, artists, journalists, etc. in establishing Milan as an international capital of culture.
The first morning will also feature the presentation of the initiative “Memorabili. Women Who Loved and Made Milan Great,” curated by Milano è Memoria and Officina del podcast.
