A Violent Echoing. Thirty Years with Amelia Rosselli

On February 11, 1996, the long-announced suicide of the greatest Italian poetess of the 20th century took place from the height of her small apartment in Via del Corallo in Rome. She had lived in the capital since the 1950s but was born in exile in Paris on March 28, 1930, the daughter of Carlo Rosselli, a leader of Florentine anti-fascism. On the anniversary of her passing, the aim is to commemorate the multifaceted and interdisciplinary vocation of Amelia Rosselli’s art—a trilingual poet, composer, ethnomusicologist, and painter.
From February 11 to 13, the Roma Tre and “La Sapienza” Universities are organizing an international conference titled “A Violent Echoing. Thirty Years with Amelia Rosselli,” curated by Andrea Cortellessa, Sonia Gentili, and Monica Venturini.
Other initiatives—poetry readings and concert events—will take place on the same dates in other locations across the city, such as the Palladium Theater.
These days provide an opportunity to explore, through presentations by guests from various Italian and international universities and thanks to an interdisciplinary approach, the figure and work of Amelia Rosselli, a central author in 20th-century poetry.
The conference has received support from the Metropolitan City and the Department of Culture of Roma Capitale, the Sapienza Foundation, the Castello Foundation, the Palladium Foundation, the University Library System of the University of Tuscia, the Elvira Badaracco Foundation, MOD (Italian Society for the Study of Literary Modernity), ADI (Association of Italianists), and the Association “La Setta dei Poeti Estinti.”
