Women’s Intellectual Work in the Twentieth Century

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM, at the University of Milan La Statale, Room 113, Via Festa del Perdono 3, the study day “Women’s Intellectual Work in the Twentieth Century” will be held, promoted by APICE (Archives of the Word, Image, and Editorial Communication) in collaboration with Fondazione Elvira Badaracco.
Within the framework of initiatives dedicated to the eightieth anniversary of women’s suffrage in Italy, the meeting aims to propose a reflection on the role of women in cultural and intellectual work of the twentieth century, with particular attention to the editorial, translation, and archival fields. Through different historical and critical perspectives, the seminar will focus on professional practices, cultural networks, and forms of self-representation that have contributed to redefining the contemporary editorial and literary field.
The day will be structured around the presentation and discussion of recent studies dedicated to women in publishing, translation, and cultural mediation of the twentieth century.
Speakers will include Elisa Gambaro, Linda Giuva, Andrea Palermitano, Bruno Pischedda, Cinzia Scarpino, and Sara Sullam, who will present volumes dedicated, among others, to Natalia Ginzburg, Adriana Motti, Alba de Céspedes, Adriana Ramelli, and the female presence in Italian and international publishing of the twentieth century.
Participants in the discussion will include Laura Antonietti, Giulia Bassi, Lodovica Braida, Roberta Cesana, Teresa Franco, Elisa Gambaro, Linda Giuva, Elisa Marazzi, Miriam Nicoli, Andrea Palermitano, Bruno Pischedda, Giovanna Rosa, Irene Piazzoni, and Sara Sullam.
