The Badaracco Foundation is participating in the Night of the Archives, an initiative promoted by the Archivissima festival, by publishing a video dedicated to “Fernanda Wittgens and the dream of the Grande Brera: words and images from her archive”.
Fernanda Wittgens (1903-1957) is celebrated for her commitment to safeguarding Brera’s artistic heritage during the Second World War, for being the first woman to direct a museum in Italy, and for designing the “Grande Brera”—the completion and expansion of the heart of culture and art in Milan. Through the papers in her archive, held at the Elvira Badaracco Foundation, the video recounts her extraordinary experience, from her dedication as a scholar and historian of Lombard art to her public role as Superintendent of Brera, and her social and political commitment as a democrat and anti-fascist.
You can find the video on our YouTube channel and on the Archivissima festival portal, which this year presents the theme #dallapartedelfuturo.
