Presentation of the reprint of Lea Melandri’s book Una visceralità indicibile. La pratica dell’inconscio nel movimento delle donne degli anni Settanta (FrancoAngeli, 2026).
A book to understand what self-awareness and the practice of the unconscious meant within the women’s movement of the 1970s — the most creative moments of a collective reflection rooted in personal experience and in questions of the body. The original way in which part of the feminist movement attempted at the time, without disregarding the contribution of psychoanalysis, to rediscover and transform the constraints of a sexuality rooted as much in the imaginary as in the historical constructions of masculine and feminine, called for a more fitting reading — one capable of setting thought in motion once again through a practice of relationships. This led to the choice of a course of lectures, “La pratica dell’inconscio nel movimento delle donne degli anni Settanta,” held at the Associazione per una Libera Università delle donne di Milano in 1996–1997, from which the idea for this long out-of-print book was born, now available again in a new reprint.
