DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, September 26\, 2025\, at 5:30 PM\, at via Tranquillo Cremona 27 in Milan (MM Buonarroti)\, the monumental mural “8 Extraordinary Women” will be inaugurated\, created by artist Pablo Pinxit on the facade of the boundary wall of Casa Majno. \nThese are Alessandrina Ravizza\, Laura Solera Mantegazza\, Ersilia Bronzini Majno\, Ada Negri\, Anna Kuliscioff\, Maria Montessori\, Rosa Genoni\, and Sibilla Aleramo: pioneers who were ahead of their time\, fighting for civil rights\, women’s emancipation\, and the construction of a more just and equitable society.\nThe work\, curated by Christian Gancitano with the supervision of Margherita Majno\, represents an important public art intervention for Milan.\nBelow the faces of the protagonists\, a QR code will be present\, allowing visitors to listen to the biographies of the women depicted\, drawn from original documentation. DESCRIPTION:Hegelian Idealism in the XXI Century: New Constellations and New Directions \nThe conference\, organized by the Department of Philosophy\, Communication and Performing Arts of Roma Tre University with the support of\, among others\, the Fondazione Elvira Badaracco\, intends to reflect on and discuss the forgotten or unexplored constellations of thought that supported\, influenced\, or cross-pollinated Hegel’s philosophy\, and to increase the synergy between classical German philosophy and new technologies. DESCRIPTION:The deadline to register for “A Sin of Writing” – Competition for stories written by women of all ages has been extended to November 15.\nFor the first edition of the competition\, year 2025-2026\, the chosen theme is the decisive issue in everyone’s life: WORK. \nThe Society for the Encyclopedia of Women aps announces an annual short story competition reserved for women of all ages\, curated by Monica Randi. \nThe choice to read and especially to “write” has been for women throughout history a decisive act of independence\, the gesture through which each woman has found\, within the orderly if not suffocating grid of social\, familial\, or emotional expectations\, a space and time for herself\, the opportunity to become a subject\, to say “I”: I feel\, I think\, I transcribe\, I tell. \nEven in difficult times for women\, writing has allowed them to express\, narrate\, document: the cultivated and educated kind\, that of philosophy and poetry\, but also the simpler kind\, excluded by class or “gender” from literary “canons”. Today we know that everything\, from letters to published writings\, from embroidered words to diaries\, from wills to poems\, from leaflets to hidden memoirs\, constitutes precious documentation that tells not only a single life but illuminates the collective contexts animated\, always\, by the living female presence\, long removed from memory and from the shared “encyclopedia.” \nWriting is therefore an act of freedom in many respects\, a sin of presence that still maintains its energy intact. \nThe Competition is open to all women who have reached 18 years of age by June 20; the announcement is published on the enciclopediadelledonne.it website and on the concorsiletterari.net platform.\nThe stories judged best will be published in an anthology. \n  \nA project by enciclopediadelledonne.it\, in collaboration with Archivio del Lavoro\, Camera del Lavoro of Milan and Fondazione Elvira Badaracco\, under the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Milan. \n

DESCRIPTION:DECONSTRUCTING POWER\nMarta Lonzi and the Feminist Critique of Architecture \nThroughout her life\, Marta Lonzi (1938–2008) was committed to asserting a different point of view in contrast to official architectural culture through projects\, competitions\, debates\, and publications. Her critical reflection on the creative process\, which stems from a subjective feminist reading and then broadens into more general considerations on design culture\, underpins all her work as a designer\, spanning from the urban scale to the object scale.\nSince 2017\, her archive has been held at the Fondazione Elvira Badaracco in Milan.  \nThis seminar is dedicated to Marta Lonzi as part of the monographic course held at the Politecnico di Milano by Marco Biraghi and Federica Deo on the relationship between architecture and counter-powers.\nThe seminar will address significant moments of Italian and international feminism in the field of design. DESCRIPTION:“Usciamo dal silenzio\, una storia di donne” (Ledizioni\, September 2022) is the ebook\, freely downloadable here in pdf\, created by sociologist Maria Grazia Gambardella based on the documents from the Uds archive\, organized and preserved by the Badaracco Foundation.\nCommissioned by the last board of Uds to preserve the memory of women’s political practices on issues that continue to shape public debate\, the work reconstructs the journey of Usciamo dal silenzio first as a movement and then as an association: a 10-year history of feminism beginning with the major Milan demonstration of January 14\, 2006 in defense of Law 194 and women’s freedom.\nThe text is accompanied by the afterword “Rereading Uds today between reason and sentiment” by four of the founders of Uds – Cristina Pecchioli\, Manuela Cartosio\, Maddalena Gasparini and Assunta Sarlo – and the photographic portfolio by Isabella Balena\, who also created the reworked image for the book cover.

DESCRIPTION:The Marta Lonzi Archive\nCurated by:\nRaffaella Poletti \nSpeakers: \nPaolo Berdini; Maria Bottero; Claudia Mattogno; Marco Romanelli \nWhat was women’s contribution to design culture in the 20th century? In terms of professional recognition\, it has most often received a kind of belated\, if not posthumous\, acknowledgment. This is the case for Marta Lonzi (1938-2008)\, architect and wholly original exponent of Italian feminism. Marta Lonzi participated from the very beginning with her sister Carla—a leading figure of feminism in Italy\, art critic and discoverer of the artistic avant-garde of the 1960s—in the founding of Rivolta femminile (Rome 1970) and the subsequent creation of the publishing house of the same name in Milan in 1971. A passionate essayist and activist publisher\, she was a designer sensitive to urban scale\, refined in interiors. An advocate of a creative process that is non-violent toward the pre-existing\, she proposed an architecture based on awareness and relationships: a position that in many ways anticipated contemporary lines of research on sustainability.\nIn a dense journey of reflections and practices that profoundly involve both the existential and professional dimensions\, she highlights how it is not objectivity\, but authenticity that validates the proposition developed by the designer: “This value undermines… every expedient of sublimated relationship with the object because it requires a real relationship with the object but first of all a real relationship with oneself.”\n“Today\, the architect is stuck at a stage in which he is one with what he elaborates. Having allowed the subjective\, therefore conscious\, relationship between himself and the object to decay\, he resides immanent in the design that he presents in objective terms\, illusorily believing them to be truthful. From this tautological spiral of designing comes the decay of the process and\, therefore\, of the object: no longer architecture\, but cubic volume; no longer a city on a human scale\, but periphery\, that is\, agglomerations devoid of soul; no longer integrity of the territory\, but fracture” (Authenticity and Design\, 2006).\nAuthenticity\, therefore: a key word in the feminist lexicon that Marta\, more than thirty-five years after the beginning of the exploration of consciousness-raising\, uses as a litmus test to reread the history of architecture in search of ethical characteristics. But this is an expansive process from the subject to its practices that now concern the entire social body.\nHer archive has been deposited since 2017 at the Fondazione Elvira Badaracco which\, on the occasion of its opening for consultation\, exhibits a selection of materials that testify to its richness and interest.
