Papers, Places and Thoughts of Women in Milan

The volume collects the proceedings of the conference “Papers, Places and Thoughts of Women in Milan. Study Day in Honor of Elvira Badaracco (1911-1994)”, organized by the Fondazione Elvira Badaracco at Casa della Memoria on November 27, 2024, under the patronage of the Municipality of Milan, the Metropolitan City of Milan and the Association of Italian Cultural Institutions (Aici).
The conference, created to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Elvira Badaracco’s passing and the founding of the Foundation named after her, aimed to take stock—following the mandate of Elvira’s intellectual legacy—of the Milan-based organizations that preserve collections of women’s memories, bringing them into dialogue with one another and re-establishing connections that had been partially lost over time. It was an opportunity to hear the voices of those who knew Elvira and worked with her in collecting and safeguarding the archives of feminist movements and groups active in Italy since the 1970s, but it was also a unique opportunity to learn about the organizations and institutions in Milan that preserve women’s memories and work to protect their rights.
