A Global Feminist Struggle

Starting from the groups in Modena and Ferrara, which constitute the direct experience of the two authors, this book aims to give voice to the political experience of Lotta Femminista and Wages for Housework, a network that spread throughout Italy in the 1970s, connecting with the Triveneto Committee and the International Wages for Housework Campaign.
It is therefore a work on memory and on the emotions that transformed lives by identifying a new space for collective reflection and action centered on bodies, labor, relationships, responsibilities, autonomy and, not least, money.
The originality of this political experience lies in having identified unpaid domestic work as the structural determinant of gender inequalities and domestic violence: to resist the “natural” femininity of service and the endemic poverty of women, it was necessary to negotiate with the State a different distribution of resources, in antagonism to the capitalist system and its control over the labor and lives of women and men.
The recovery of this radicalism founded on conflicts of sex, class, and race is directed toward the present: toward the Non Una di Meno movement and the mobilization for the global strike.
