One Woman Too Many

This book is the account of my individual political journey within the women’s movement from 1962 to 1997. In this volume, my public and theoretical writings are intertwined with private ones and with the salient historical events in which I was a protagonist alongside others, and upon which I built comments, criticisms, insights, and perspectives. The text takes the form of an articulated diary of life and thoughts, faithful at every moment—not readapted to the present day—to the emotional climate and the personal and contextual elaboration of the time. The narrative, anchored in the time of real lived experience, reflects the modes and contents of that historical moment, in which the intertwining and co-presence of body, mind, and emotion constitute the hallmark of various events: an important political innovation that the practice of the women’s movement brought into the world.

Daniela Pellegrini (Belluno 1937) lives in Milan where, together with Nadia Riva, she is the animator of the Cicip & Ciciap Women’s Cultural and Political Circle, which they founded in 1981. With Nadia Riva, she initiated, managed, and financed the magazine “Fluttuaria, segni di autonomia nell’esperienza delle donne,” of which seventeen issues were published between 1987 and 1994. In the 1960s, Daniela Pellegrini worked as a creative executive in the largest Milanese advertising agencies. Between 1964 and 1965, she founded the first autonomous women’s group: ACAP, later renamed and better known as Demau. In the 1970s, she abandoned her career to dedicate herself entirely to the politics of the women’s movement.
